Ardal Celebrates Its Partnership with the Welsh Refugee Council

Steve Robinson

As part of our ongoing #CommunityWellbeingBenefits work, and via funding through our SEWSCAP framework, we have been able to support the Welsh Refugee Council in its vital work.

Our funding has enabled WRC to purchase computers for its ‘lived experience volunteers’ within its Education and Employment team, marking a transformative step in enhancing its services for sanctuary seekers and refugees.

Bridging the Digital Divide

Access to technology is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. For many of WRC’s volunteers, who come from diverse backgrounds and have experienced the challenges of seeking asylum and starting anew in Wales, the digital divide is a significant barrier. The new computers have bridged this gap, providing their volunteers with essential tools to enhance their work and personal development.

Enhancing Volunteer Capabilities

With the new computers, WRC’s volunteers can now engage more effectively in various tasks. From preparing and delivering educational content to conducting job searches and applications, the availability of reliable technology has streamlined their efforts. This has not only boosted their confidence and skills but also improved the quality of support they provide to the sanctuary seekers and refugees they serve.

Strengthening Its Services

The enhanced capabilities of WRC’s volunteers has had a ripple effect on its overall project outcomes. With better resources, its Education and Employment team can now offer more comprehensive and timely assistance to sanctuary seekers and refugees. The volunteers’ ability to manage and utilise digital tools has led to more efficient processes, allowing them to reach more individuals and provide higher-quality services.

A Step Towards Digital Inclusion

The SEWSCAP funding has also been instrumental in promoting digital inclusion among WRC’s volunteers. Many of them are now equipped with the skills and confidence to navigate the digital world, a crucial competency in today’s job market. This empowerment has opened new opportunities for personal growth and career advancement, aligning with WRC’s broader goals of fostering independence and integration among refugees.
